The massive explosion in Beirut on Aug. 4 has been traced back to a cargo ship, the Rhosus, that arrived in the city’s port in 2013 carrying 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate. The owner of the Rhosus has now been linked to the Lebanese bank used by Hezbollah, according to an investigation by Der Spiegel and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project.
The Beirut blast killed 172 people, injured 6,000 and left 300,000 homeless.

The blast was not centered on the ship - that’s false - the cratter center is on the warehouse which the ship was tied up next to.

The but is that the crime syndicates preceded Hezbollah and if and whenever Hezbollah recedes as a force in Lebanon the crime syndicates there will still be around. Right now they are useful to and work with Hezbollad. I am sure they remind Hezbollah at times that they are not Hezbollah’s property.

Hezbollah ( and Iran) have been accumulating and storing the ammonia for improvised bomb making for a long time, and at many different sites, a few sites in other countries. Hezbollah Islamists had been greatly reduced in numbers during the Syrian war, this ammonia load appears to have been abandoned or stocks that were not turned into explosives. Israel has long been blowing up all of the Iranian missiles discovered in Lebanon, usually covertly. Fact: this load was an unused weapons storage site.I am of the opinion it was intentionally set off by those it was going to be used against., most likely Israel as they have been on high alert and prepping for the upcoming strike on Hezbollah’s 1500 plus rocket and missile sites in Lebanon aimed at Israel. Iranian Revolutionary Guards are ramping up their presence in Labanon....yes, Iranian troops, advisors, etc have been confirmed in Lebanon for years- Iran has a lot of explaining to do....remember when a top Iranian Revolutionary Guard general was killed when inspecting the Israeli Lebanon border? I made a mistake, the current number of Hezbollah/ Iranian missile sites ( all located in heavily populated civilian area) identified by Israel is estimated to be over 3,000. There will be a lot of fake news and Lebanon being a victim when Israel finally acts in destroying them....ditto with all the Iranian missiles Syria’s Assad is hiding away....they are being trucked into Lebanon and Israel is reported destroying them when able, some right next door to Assad’s palace and near the Damascus airport.
As far as the freighter, it was abandoned at the dock and at some point the ammonium nitrate was offloaded to the adjacent warehouse. After unloading, the non-operable freighter was towed to the harbor breakwater and side moored there about a quarter to half mile away from the disappeared warehouse. The freighter sank at the mooring several years ago and remains there to this day. Since the submerged ship is not blocking the ship channel, it was cheaper to leave it in place.

Heh... "greatly reduced in numbers" ... the Iranians didn't want to serve in Syria thanks to the body bag syndrome, so the Iranian mullahcracy press-ganged refugees (most of them from Afghanistan of course) and forced the Hizzies to fight in Syria.
