That is, indeed quite correct. If anything it tales longer than that. It also costs the drug company that invented it around 1 to 3 billion dollars. That's billion, with a B. It's almost all because of government regulations which require actual demonstrations through multiple actual trials that the drug is both "safe and effective". This also eats away nearly half the 20 year patent protection given to the drug. Patent law requires telling the world what it takes to produce the drug. After 20 years any one who wants can make a generic version of the drug, at minimal cost. The inventing company must make enough profit on the drug to cover the billions in cost to get the approval, along with the billions more it took to invent the drug.

Next time you want to blame someone for high drug costs, blame government regulations, not the drug company.

Now add to that the fact that only 1 in 10’drugs u see development ever make it to market
