Jockeys to be replaced by trained chimps.

They have decided what the virus will be doing 9 months from now?

Ladies extravagant hat makers most affected.

The serious betters do so online en masse to be plenty profitable. True on the tourism loss though. I will say horse racing, from a home viewing angle, horseracing is one of those broadcasts that you don't notice the lack of fans as much. Probably better for the horses too not to have all that commotion and distraction. But there is nothing like the in-person experience.

To paraphrase another saying:

The shutdowns will continue
until morale improves.

WOW, I am so jealous you saw Secretariat run!!

Secretariat lost four races. I was at three of them. (I also was at the Belmont Stakes where he ran 1:10 and change for the first six furlongs. I thought he was through then. He went on to win by 31 lengths.)

” I have seen that Belmont race countless times and it still makes me cry.”

Me too. Will watch it again in a few minutes. What happened at that race is close to Marvel Comic superhero stuff, just not possible, but it happened.

The most iconic TV shot and noise moment in all of sports . . .

Is the pack of horses rounding the final curve to head down the stretch

The TV camera view moves to the front to catch the curve and at that moment the crowd noise increases exponentially

It happens only once a year . . . the noise will be missed. I’m not much of a racing fan, but that moment sends chills

No race fans? Seriously, why bother? It will be a shell of its self.

Honestly I think the same way. This whole covid19 BS plus the protests that have been allowed practically unchecked, I don't know why we even bother. I'm so over everything in this state and city right now.

I was rethinking my comment, and I can see why they need to do the race. Lots of horse owners, trainers, and staff have put a lot of work into their beloved horses over the year. They need to see some results for their efforts. But the overall event will be a shadow of itself.

Man, Dilbert
Wife and I went to the Derby two years ago.
Little more than a drunk fest with thousands of youth who’d spent the night before partying in the parking lots surrounding U.Of Louisville stadium.

How about no horses and just have the jockeys race each other? : )

Louisville will take a long years to recover, if ever. The west end folks will occupy and take over downtown.

I have seen that Belmont race countless times and it still makes me cry.

I just watched it again on YouTube and it made me cry. Every time I watch it I get the feeling that during the stretch run Secretariat is about to break the bonds of gravity and begin to fly. He made it look so effortless. “He is moving like a tremendous machine!” Probably the best line ever uttered in a race call.
