Kinda.
It is because we put many limitations on the rules of engagement for ourselves.
We would not attack their supplies, such as Iran.
We would not attack their mosques, which became sanctuaries.
Many other limitations.
We were not willing to kill them all to win.
Texas students hijacked a drone...

The iranians claim to have done it.
First, “if you see the other plane, you’re probably already dead.”
Not necessarily true, but probably true.
The is a reason the F35 gun is an afterthought (and a pod in the B and C)and the F22 has a grand total of 5 seconds of ammo. And, for that matter, why the Chinese J-20 has no cannon, at all.
Really, the only reason the F22/35 have guns is bad memories the US has from flying fighters without guns in Vietnam — before missile tech is what it is.
“none of the military bases are big enough to do a simulation. According to this guy, for a real simulation, you need a space nearly as big as Utah.”
Well, a big chunk of AZ, NV, NM, and UT is available — and used with regularity. It’s the reason a sabra Israeli puts Hatch green chiles on almost all my food -— AND I’ve exported the seeds to Israel.
If AI robot soldiers and fighter planes can defeat humans and human operated tanks/planes how will we ever win if they turn on us in a Terminator/Skynet situation? Im getting a bit nervous about AI.
My belief is that this going to happen, sooner rather than later, and will result in never ending wars.
“Heron, a small, female- and minority-owned company with offices in Maryland and Virginia, builds artificial intelligence agents”
China’s already got it. I wish that was sarcasm.
Hmmm... Not the way Katee (Kara) & I remember them...
1984 was not a how to manual
Terminator the movie was not either, or were they ?
Mankind was made in gods image to be slaves and look what happened to the gods..
AI is being made by mankind to be our slaves, and already we do not comprehend how they think. https://www.technologyreview.com/2017/04/11/5113/the-dark-secret-at-the-heart-of-ai/
Unfortunately I don’t even have to open the bay doors to see how this ends.
DARPAs AlphaDogfight trials have officially come to a close with Heron Systems incredible artificial intelligence pilot system defeating not only its industry competitors, but going on to secure 5 straight victories against a highly trained U.S. Air Force F-16 pilot, without the human pilot scoring a single hit.
They found advanced structural appendages in a burned out warehouse with astronomus chips they were able to reverse engineer.
As opposed to those so-so trained F-16 pilots?
True, but it was slimy.
Dr. Miles Dyson was the Engineer who reverse engineered the advanced micro chips.
In addition to advantages mentioned up thread is the ability to sacrifice the AI craft to fulfill the objective of destroying a target or protecting an asset.
Interesting but it was all simulation.
The AI was not actually flying anything.
Put the AI into an actual aircraft and let real pilots give them a run.
That would be a real test.
.
Put move effort into driverless cars, my driving skills are deteriorating quickly.
Good points. Let me know when they are self-fueling!
We need to insure somehow that this stuff has an OFF switch somewhere. The greatest threat to humans that will come of this will be those dweebs who decide that AI has rights and fight us shutting it off when we need to.
The MQ25 has been flying off of carriers for the US Navy already. It is not out of the question for the process to be automated from start to finish as long as there is fuel in the feeder tank. It likely won’t be fully autonomous in my lifetime, but I do look for the Air Force to field something (much larger) similar in the future.

“The military was testing the use of lasers mounted on Boeing 747s to destroy missiles in the 2000s at Edwards Air Force Base.”
Ummm, 1980’s at least.
