If life in America were great, I maybe could understand the neocon obsession with what’s wrong with other countries that we need to go in and fix. But so much needs fixing here at home that we don’t have the luxury to be invading and trying to remake other countries. Or at least we shouldn’t have that luxury, because has diverted us from fixing the “homeland” and it’s people - and securing our borders, which is the first element of any sane “national defense” program.

“... a full supply of protective gear ...”
for 330 millon people I assume you mean ?

“..a CDC that focused on pinpointing and developing tests for and vaccines against diseases ...”
Well, theoretically that is what the CDC does and they should have a vaccine any year now so the entire nation could come out of their cells.

But I do agree with your pointing out their criminal politicization.

For a hell of a lot more than we had.

When I was growing up they had a big civil defense program against nuclear attack, including designated civil defense shelter areas in every public building, and school kids across the country doing civil defense drills. It’s not unreasonable to have a civil defense program against chemical/disease warfare that stockpiles tens of millions of masks, etc, and securely guards our borders With a fraction of the TRILLIONS of dollars we’ve blown invading and trying to occupy Iraq Syria and Afghanistan, it could and should be done , and we could actually protect people here at home for a change

How is that unreasonable? The federal government prints more currency than that; probably just about that number of Social Security cards, and tons and tons and tons of coins. Creating and storing mass numbers of masks and other protective gear would not be an unprecedented undertaking at least in scale, and private companies would be involved in production, with storage facilities spaced out across the country

Just like any sane “national defense” starts with securing OUR border - not Syria’s border or Somalia’s border - it also has to prioritize the safety and health (same thing) of our own people and our own economy. Any “national security” that puts Syria or Somalia or Iraq before America is neither “national” nor “security”

Playing in the roads in Somalia is very dangerous, idiot.

You do realize that even the MOP gear issued to and used by the military has an expiration period for it’s use once it is employed, don”t you? It is measured in days/weeks IIRC. And, I assure you it is cost-prohibitive.

The rats raised holy hell when the President shut the disease-ridden Chinese from entering the country. Doytou think the rats will fund MOP gear for their deplorable countrymen?

Have you ever worn MOP gear? The heat stress training in August in Okinawa for four hours filled my mask with enough sweat to drown me. I easily lost over a gallon of sweat, which easily destroyed the charcoal impregnated material that the suit was made with.

Anytime someone throws out the “neocon,” or “paleocon” buzz words you can assume they're trolls, to be put on your ignore list.

It would be cool if these smart bombs could find the target, hover outside, knock on the door, and then send the guy to Hell when he answers. Some of the time, just the knock on the door might cause a work accident, I'm sure those bomb makers are a little jittery. Hey, maybe just a drone that goes down the streets of these Islamic hell-holes, knocking on each door, would find unknown bomb makers just by doing that, and save us a fortune.
