Takes me back. Just like keeping the old kids’ toys in the attic until they become collectors items, stubbornly sticking to old skills eventually pays off!
I have dabbled in other languages...C#,VB.net,JDE ERP,...even did a little SQLServer DBA...but like Corleone...”they kepp pulling me back!” Best money I am making now is doing the RPG. I am currently building a whole new app set to replace old SYS36 RPG/OCL...
Does that mean my old Commodore Vic-20 out in the garage is worth something lolol?
Cobol was easy to port across platforms. I wrote a regional Airline package on a System-34, ported over to System-36, then an IBM-RISC 6000 Unix server and then finally a PC Windows based network. Porting the software was a piece of cake.
