The museum dedicated to the memory of Susan B. Anthony has, on her behalf, declined President Donald Trumps pardon of the late womens suffrage leader.
The National Susan B. Anthony Museum and House in Rochester, New York, explained in a lengthy Twitter thread Tuesday why it objected to Trumps pardon for Anthony, who was arrested and charged in 1872 for voting illegally.
It also suggested some other ways that Anthony could be honored.
Trump announced the pardon Tuesday on the 100th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote.
Critics accused Trump of performing an empty gesture with the pardon, given his recent attacks on mail-in voting and bids to cast doubt on the result of the 2020 election.
Trump has claimed hell only lose to Democratic nominee Joe Biden in November if the vote is rigged.
The museum, where Anthony lived and was arrested, noted how shed been outraged to be denied a trial by jury and proposed if one wants to honor Susan B. Anthony today, a clear stance against any form of voter suppression would be welcome.
Support for the Equal Rights Amendment would be well received, it continued. Advocacy for human rights for all would be splendid.
Anthony was also a strong proponent of sex education, fair labor practices, excellent public education, equal pay for equal work, and elimination of all forms of discrimination, the museum said.

Trump pardoned a person - not a museum run by socialists.
Amen!
And I assume that Susan B. Anthony will be voting in the 2020 election.
Museum?
A pardon not accepted is not a pardon at all . . .
If she can rise from the dead (only done once by the divine) she can then reject the pardon. Period.
This is one of those times when i wish i had a twitter account so i could say to that museum:
Way to be gracious about someone bringing national attention to the life and causes of the woman your museum exists to enshrine. Instead, anyone who might have been interested will just roll their eyes and go back to forgetting about you. Good Job.
me outside the SBAnthony Museum: I am here to see the Presidential Pardon given to SBA.
Museum be like: We turned that political stunt down.
i be: is there a HoJo’s anywhere around... see ya.
As opposed to the pardon she got from 0bama or Clintoon? Oh, that's right. Neither signed such a document.
Who cares. It was a gesture. Made the point, got him the headlines. Move on, these people are clueless
Declining it does nothing. The pardon has been granted.
Dedication to a non-criminal is unthinkable and not part of the Democrat group think. Criminals should be honored for their part in destroying evil American culture and civilization.
And if Obama had pardoned her, they’d be saying what a great honor it is ... and long overdue.
SCREW THEM!!! I had NO idea that there were SO many STUPID, VILE people in this country!
I remember when the viewers of C-Span’s Friday Open Forum call-in used to be 75% conservative. Then, to make things ‘fair’, they created Republican, Democrat and Independent phone lines. Used to respect Brian Lamb before that cheap stunt.
I thought she was PRO-LIFE!
“Im trying to be polite and watch my language.”
Well, you did a good job and still made all valid points.
Did SBA give the museum power of attorney to act on her behalf?
Trump doesn't need a lecture from people with Trump derangement syndrome
And note tagline.
