A little less than a week ago, blue Austin made itself a laughingstock across the rest of Texas. The all-Democrat city council and its left-wing Mayor Steve Adler voted unanimously to chop $150 million out of the citys $434 million dollar budget. Thats a cut of one-third.
Austin did this as the WSJ revealed that the fast-growing city of about a million leads the nation in the percentage increase of homicides in 2020. Yes, its rate of increase is worse even than New York and Chicago.
Austin recently billed itself as safe. It can no longer honestly say that it is.
The cuts are draconian, and the nature of the cuts is nonsensical. For instance, the council voted to do away with the mounted unit. That unit has been very effective at establishing order when rioters illegally take over city streets, without having to resort to more kinetic means of clearing thoroughfares.
Austins former police chief, Art Acevedo, sounded off after the vote and warned of consequences for taking so many police officers off the streets and so many useful assets away from those officers who remain. He called on residents to rise up and oppose the cuts.
If you dont speak up now, Acevedo said during an interview with the citys CBS affiliate after the vote last week. If you dont speak up and absolutely set on fire those phone lines, the emails, the letters to your mayor and council, standby to standby. The economic engine that drives that great city, that provides the quality parks, the quality libraries, the quality life that weve enjoyed, I say we because I still have property there, is going to go by the wayside.
Acevedo is merely previewing for Austin whats already happening in Seattle,

Texas people need to locate all newcomers from CA and send a “committee” to visit them with information and forms to fill out concerning voting and how it was be beneficial for them to consider a more conservative life style.
Back in the day, early 1980s, when we played gigs across Texas, we commented on the “different” Austin was from the rest of Texas. We didn’t especially like Austin, but loved the rest of Texas. So it’s not a new thing.
Leave ‘em alone and let ‘em burn.
The Californians I’ve seen haven’t been that bad - mainly they are sick of California and want out.
The real problem I’ve seen are the dang north easterners who seem to cling to their stupid ideas - including many that claim they have come down here to help us, “get it together.”
Thankfully many of them soon gravitate towards Austin, which is pretty much already a hopeless loss.
Did I just see a flying pig? I just agreed with Art Acevedo!
It is generally a troublesome minority that inflicts itself on society, and yes, there are usually many who sympathize with it. But the best attack in this case is to directly fight against the annoying ones by hitting them where it hurts.
In this case, they want no police and anarchy. So give them even more police and judges who are not under the thumb of their worthless local government. Then quickly arrest any troublemakers and ship them away for trial and jail far out of the city.
Of course the local agitators will squeal like stuck pigs, but it will show the local people the value of law and order.
I try not to go to even my mailbox unless I am armed. My goal is to never have to say I wish I had a weapon on me.
Send in a team of baby sitters from the local high school until the adults can be found.
If one is over 25 then 6th st at least the portions from 35 to congress is not for them. I lived in a condo 3 blocks from 6th st worked in the bar industry for 8 years walking distance from my condo and after 2010 6th changed and not for the better. West 6th from.congress to Lamar is where adults should be.
