“Thus the popularity of the masks with valves that dont filter exhaled air.”

You mean full medical PPE? A full setup will go a long way toward not catching the virus - otherwise medical personnel would be dropping like flies - it’s function is to protect the wearer, not so much as to stop the wearer from spreading.
If we all went about out daily lives decked out in hazmat-like threads the infection rate would doubtless go down to almost zero. But you’d have a hard time getting everyone to go along with that!
Yup, masks help spread the disease. That’s why they want you to wear them.
A mask may indeed catch some moisture laden with COVID, but that which escapes likely is forced out through the mesh at a far higher velocity, thus traveling farther.
Compare a water hose to a water hose w/ nosel.
Who knows anything.....it’s all ridiculous.
Misleading headline. Mask wearing mot dangerous in itself, only if it leads to other risky behavior.
It is very important to emphasize that the virus aerosol particles are 3 microns in size. This is very small and there are few, if any, masks that protect you or the other guy against particles that small - short of a bubble suite with it own oxygen supply.
Last kind protects you but not the other guy - all others protect no one and are only good to remind you not to touch your face.
See: Dr. uses vape clouds to illustrate how masks do not work
CDC: Face Masks With Valves Or Vents Dont Prevent Spread Of COVID
Then there is this problem
And this
There are N99 masks which are expensive (like $20 each) and usually single use of limited duration which have dual valves - in and out. However, the out valve does not protect the other guy from you.
There was a cartoon a few days ago with a woman wearing a mask talking to a man who was building a chain-link fence—to keep mosquitoes out of his yard.
“until a reasonably-effective vaccine is widely distributed for that to work.”

That’s the problem with most solutions; until it’s out there in the real world you don’t know how well it’ll work. All you have are test runs.
