The NBA and MLB, two of the nations biggest pro sports, have returned to TV after the COVID-19 hiatus. However, their ratings show that fans just arent all that interested in the new, woke version of the leagues.
Both basketball and baseball hit screens this summer filled with paeans to Black Lives Matter: Protests during the national anthem, and an avalanche of sloganeering on signs, stadium floors and fields, and on player jersey backs. Along with the intrusion of this political activism on TV during the games, the two leagues have literally blasted social media with one woke proclamation after another.
For weeks ahead of the debut of the shortened 2020 seasons, NBA and MLB sports reporters brayed about how important the leagues returns were and insisted that fans were hungry for sports.

Seattle has a baseball again? I remember the Pilots...but that was a long time ago..
When there was no other sport happening on the planet ESPN actually got me to stop watching Korean baseball games with their continuous in-your-face woke commentary.
It is really amazing just how easy it has been to not watch those whining kneeling ingrates. They should have been taught not to bite the hand that feeds them. Not many people get paid $millions for playing a kids game. I have a feeling that number will decrease.
I haven’t watched any pro sports in at least 15 years. I just hope college football is not infected with this crap.
MLB is really stupid for getting involved since they don’t have China to prop them up, unlike the NBA.
As vaudeville had gone before it, so goes television. As television continues to decline, they have no plan other than to foment discord in order to grab any money they can from it on the way down.
Is there any doubt that Trump and the Republicans will overwhelmingly win the “secret ballot / in person” vote? Including early voting? I don’t see any way that doesn’t happen at this point. This is what sets up the chaos. The vote totals on election day will show Trump winning and every day after the lead cut and bled until Biden and the Dems win the overwhelming victory. Who knows what the real count will be. What a mess.
Just goes to show that if you feel the need to listen to reviewers/critics, you are better served in finding one whose taste in entertainment is similar to your own.
Well said.
I was a Mariners fan for years. Tough team to cheer for and I just got fed up with it.
They had a terrific year, what 2 or 3 years ago. They were even in the running for getting into the playoffs. Then, after the season ended, all of the very good players went onto other teams and we were in another "rebuilding" process. I just threw my hands up in the air and said no more. I told my hubby I was going to stop watching baseball. He didn't believe me because I am a fan of baseball. That is my game. But, I was true to my word and haven't watched a Mariners game since.
I was tired of the same old, same old: Rotating players in and out of the team, rotating field managers, in and out of the team. And it never really changes the final reault.
Oh, there were some highlights like watching Felix Hernandez pitch a perfect game; but, the highlights were too few and the lowlights seem to be constant. The only player I know on that team anymore is Kyle Seager.
I feel for you. The Mariners were in a way responsible for the Blue Jays to come in to existence since they joined MLB the same year. The Blue Jays history has been much better although lots of heartbreak along the way as well. There was a baseball writer who wrote that most of baseball is losing. Only one team wins it all each year so the others all have to say wait til next year. That said 40+ years of heartbreak is enough and I don’t blame you for throwing in the towel. I’ve thrown in the towel too but for different reasons. Initially maybe 15 years ago I was getting sports fatigue and over saturation. Too much sports was beginning to dull the enjoyment. After that the politics of the left creeping in ended it for me.
I’ve been a rabid baseball fan all my life. I’m surprised at my own disaffection for the game now. I’m still following every game of my decrepit Giants, but I can no longer find any attraction to other games. I formerly always had a game on with my MLB.tv subscription, but now the millionaires standing in empty stadiums while a pitcher makes six pickoff throws is no longer entrancing.
The players are just going through the motions. I’ve never seen such lousy umpiring, too. A pitch down the middle: ball. A pitch a foot outside: strike.
Political sermons and artificial fans isn’t a great combination. The Dems just found that out with their national convention.
OK...you do know sarcasm when you see it, right?
Fans are interested in sports. They can get virtue signaling anywhere. Why waste a couple of hours in front of a tv set?
Or re sign on to a sport cable to see this B$!
No way, will I pay some left wing tv rectums to insult my country, my scores of relatives, who served in this country’s military* and their wives who stood by them and kept their homes going while they were defending America.
*Many died in combat or miserable enemy prisons or like my dad were severely injured/disabled for the rest of his adult life.
BTTT!!!
Sports used to be an escape from politics and other crappy parts of our lives.
Then they want to lecture their paying fans and their viewers? My two big sports were MLB and NASCAR.
No more. I hope the sponsors of these sports are taking notice.
