Keane says Belarus' location is 'very strategic' to Putin who wants to increase Russia's 'sphere of influence'

Belarus' location is “very strategic” to Russian President Vladimir Putin who “wants to increase the sphere of influence of Russia in the region, in Eastern Europe in particular and also in the Middle East,” Fox News senior strategic analyst and retired Army Gen. Jack Keane said on Monday.

Keane made the comments on “America’s Newsroom” the weekend after thousands of demonstrators flooded the streets of Minsk, the capital city of Belarus, to protest police violence against peaceful demonstrators earlier in the week after a disputed presidential election.

Belarussians marched in the capital shouting “Go Away” to President Alexander Lukashenko, and demanded his resignation after his 26-year reign.

Putin wants a contiguous border with Kaliningrad. If he has Belarus, he only needs to slice off a piece of SW Lithuania to finally make it happen.

There is no such nation as “Belarus”.

There is Russia, and there is Poland. The line keeps moving, right now it’s about right.

Keane is a neocon warmonger-type. I’ve watched him for years on Fox.

Here is your next “Putin rules Trump” moment. Sometime early next week.

The invasion that Putin is really afraid of, is democracy.

It’s not about any kind of military invasion. Belarus can’t be allowed to go democratic, where democracy could then spread to Russia and other Russian neighbors.

Sounds like Belorussia's problem, not mine.

Belarusians has their own language and culture that is distinctly non Russian. They don’t call Russia the prison of nations for nothing.

Putin is deep into his egg money propping up Assad and trying to hang on to the Crimea. With the current price of oil doubtful he has the cash for another adventure.

The Suwalki Corridor may soon become a household name. Or maybe not.

I'm not necessarily for intervention even if I can read a map and have read enough history to see that rulers often try to make their lands contiguous when they can. In addition, taking slices of a country has been Putin's MO in places like Georgia and Ukraine.

In reality, with our troops only as far as Poland, almost no one would seriously advocate war even if he did take a slice of Lithuania.

No problem for us. Sounds like a problem to be solved by the EU Army. Time for the socialists to go against the communists again.

Do not see this happening. Belarus is a buffer between Russia and Polish NATO.

“Belarusians has their own language and culture that is distinctly non Russian. “

Sorta. At best.

In ancient times there was Great Russia (Russian proper), Little Russia (Ukraine) and White Russia (Belarus).

All the Rus’.
