How?

Doesn’t EDD check to see if someone is actually unemployed by a specific employer and the SS# associated?

Guess I don’t think like a criminal

Thanks to one sharp eyed resident, these two were caught.
The worst place to act jumpy and jerky is inside of a bank.
Everybody is being stared at, even the tellers at times.

There are benefit administrators and auditors that should be fired over this.
How do they register for unemployment benefits using names of people out of state? Don't you have to have a work record in California to be eligible for benefits?
  1. If you do have to have a work record, then how did they know what names to claim. That would imply an inside job.
  2. Did they use multiple addresses to apply, or were all the debit cards sent to the same address. And if so, why didn't the system have some kind of control to catch that and investigate?

Anybody on this thread heard about the $570 million unemployment fraud in Washington state?

Yes - you read that correctly - $570 million!

Our state news media barely cover the story. They hide behind the pretext that writing about it will reveal key details of how the fraud was committed.

I assume that it was all federal money since no one in state government appears to be upset.

All we know is that “Nigerian gangs” may be involved. No arrests have been made that I know about.

What do Washington voters think?

Yawn.

A few weeks ago, Democrat Governor Inslee and our incumbent Democrat Attorney General both received more than 50% of the vote in our state wide “jungle primary.”
