The tragic shooting death of five-year-old boy Cannon Hinnant, who was killed while riding his bicycle outside his home in Wilson, North Carolina last weekend, has attracted national attention. Now, local police are warning about false press releases circulating online that offer an alternative theory on the killing.
As reported by Raleigh News & Observer, The Wilson Police Department issued a statement Friday addressing the fraudulent press releases, which appear to be from the department and are being shared widely on Facebook.
The Wilson Police Department has been made aware of numerous posts containing false information circulating on social media, including some posts that look like they were releases from investigators, the police department said in a statement, asking people to avoid sharing the posts.

Is this the same child who’s murdering neighbor threw a fundraising house party at the same time a candlelight memorial was going on at the murdered child’s home next door?
Black shooter, white kid, no white privilege to show here, not a story. No details forthcoming.
And know we know how crackpot conspiracy theories get started.
There where eye witnesses.
I believe that the low life shot the kid but it looked like a sketchy neighborhood with some seedy characters living about. I wouldn’t let my kid play there because I wouldn’t be living there for one thing.
From the article “The lack of information from police and the inexplicable nature of the killing may be behind the popularity of the false press release, whose author is unknown, circulating online.”
Shouldn’t that be false “press release”?
An so begins the smear by leftist media and leftist police.
JoMa
Its ok to kill white people.
Makes you cry.
As far as the “race” issue goes, we error in today’s times when the fact of the race is ignored, because the Left (BLM) the Democrats and the media have been inflaming hatred by blacks toward whites throughout the Trump administration. The role of that cannot be ignored when it comes to the shooter’s motives.
A Facebook group with 20,000 members who support the alleged killer of 5-year-old Cannon Hinnant is going viral both due to its size and the controversial opinions held by group members.
Hmmmmm...interesting...
You may be right, and that would convey a completely different meaning too.
You may remember an incident about a month back in Cape Girardeau, MO where a skinny 12-year-old white kid was busking on the street late at night. A car drove up, stopped, big black guy got out and ‘danced’ up to the kid and sucker punched in the head. The whole attack was video recorded so there was no question as to what happened.
Yet, within an hour, someone was claiming that the skinny kid had been bullying the black man’s daughter and therefor had it coming. If you’ve seen the picture of the kid involved, he wasn’t bullying anyone. Yet, someone was quite willing to anonymously accuse the kid of being the real aggressor.
Same thing with the car that got attacked at a ‘mostly peaceful’ protest. Windows were smashed in and a motorcyclist tried to block the car to prevent escape. Car took off taking the bike with him. Within minutes the claim went out that the driver was stopped because he was waving a gun at people and the attack on the car was just peaceful self-defense. Alas there was no video to back up that claim.
