I don’t get this sentence:
“Numerous witnesses told investigators they saw an Amish girl riding in the car in her church clothes, which would be unusual on a Sunday,”
It probably should be “not be unusual”.
I think it means the Amish won’t ride in cars on Sunday in their church clothes. They would be going to church in their buggies.

Just another example of poor journalism and editing. Should read, “Numerous witnesses told investigators they saw an Amish girl riding in a car on a Sunday, which would be unusual. They reported she was wearing church clothes.
