Yes he did. He also could not have made “History of the World (Part One) or “Space Balls” and probably “Frankenstein”

Mel was and old old school liberal with a real sense of humor

To this day..only Mel Brooks would do and dare to do the “Springtime for Hitler” segment in “The Producers”
its a classic brilliant bit
