On Thursday evening, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum announced that they would not be assembling the annual light installation, 'Tribute in Lights' at the Ground Zero memorial in downtown Manhattan. The powerful illuminated memorial first lit the night sky six months after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, as an homage to the fallen Twin Towers and to pay tribute to 3,000 lost lives. It has been reassembled every September since the attacks, reminding the millions who can view the powerful lights of tragedy and loss as well as the subsequent American resilience.
The Museum says that the light installation this year will not happen because the dozens of workers needed to assemble the memorial would be too at risk of infection from COVID-19.
"Tribute in Light, the worlds beloved twin beams of light, will not shine over lower Manhattan as part of this years 9/11 commemoration," The Museum said via their website. "This incredibly difficult decision was reached in consultation with our partners after concluding the health risks during the pandemic were far too great for the large crew required to produce the annual Tribute in Light. We hope to resume this iconic tribute for the 20th anniversary."
The Museum went on to say that they would go forward instead with a "Tribute in Lights" that would involve buildings throughout Manhattan lit up in commemoration. Earlier in the pandemic, the Museum announced that it would not go forward with the annual tradition of hosting victim family members at Ground Zero to read the list of names of those killed in the terrorist attack. This year, they said, they'd use previously recorded readings from prior events.
The claim by the Museum that the installation would be too dangerous for the workers involved in its construction drew immediate excoriation online from those who simply didn't understand the weak excuse for canceling such an important memorial, particularly as city mayor Bill de Blasio has championed anti-police protests and commissioned the painting of five "Black Lives Matter" murals in each borough. That effort involved several dozen city workers and volunteers in close proximity to accomplish.
Spot on.
I love how those Tuff Noo Yawkers do nothing but mock & ridicule the South...then move to the South they mock & ridicule. Then spread their diseased arrogance around.
But criticize Cesspool NYC & the thin skinned cry & call you a redneck. As if that’s an insult.
Bless their hearts.
They think that sticking the middle finger in the air half the time, and spouting 4-letter words every other sentence is a sign of toughness.
And they say the South is uncultured.
:)
With such an apparent hatred for all humans from NYC I wonder how you bring yourself to support President Trump? He is a born and bred Noo Yawker in case you never heard.
Thats quite a long paragraph.
Well sweetness. I don’t know any New Yorkers that mock the southern people. To be honest, they probably don’t think about you at all.
I lived down south in the ‘80s. I met and worked with many people all over the south and we had a great time, and still keep in touch after all these years.
You don’t even know me or the many other New York conservatives here and yet you will come to this premiere Conservative website and spit your vitriol.
Your hate must be based on something more personal. I think maybe some hot NY babe came down south and stole your man. Bless your poor heart. Have a nice day.
You are posting like Twitter trash here, attacking a whole slew of Freepers based on nothing but where they are from.
We are all supposed to be Conservatives here and always had a more cultured, sophisticated site. I can’t imagine President Trump or Rudy Guliani (Noo Yawkers) coming here and seeing your trash.
You are a troll and a disrupter.
Can’t handle the truth. I was right. The very perturbed Tuff Noo yawkers are incredibly thin skinned. Who knew?
Stop falsely accusing me of being a poser & troll. You don’t know me. Your hatred must come from deep within.
Your cheap shot about my man??? Really??? That’s the best you can do???
And if you don’t like what I post, don’t read it. See easy fix.
PS Learn to use “bless your heart” correctly. Grow up yankee boy.
advise you cool your heels if you wish to continue posting on FR
