Hammering the racial factor, whipping up public outrage, wall-to-wall coverage for days on end? In short, propagandizing the story for a desired result?
No. They reported the story. Nothing more. Because not only can it not be perverted to advance their narrative, it completely negates their narrative.

There wasn't huge gatherings protesting, marching, demonstrating, etc. so what
was there for them to cover? Had there been they would have been there spilling
their garbage.
They did have articles of the event in many news outlets.
