A) It hasn’t taken long at all to produce hundreds of viable vaccine candidates. It’s been just about 7 months since we got the viral genome mapped for SARS-CoV-2.
Meanwhile, it took 61 years after the first US outbreak of polio to get a working vaccine. We’ll have this one done, approved, and at your local CVS in less than 1 year.
B) There are multiple vaccine candidates (such as Novavax’s) which did NOT use fetal stem cells to culture the virus. It’s easier to culture a virus and test with it using fetal stem cells, but it’s not strictly necessary. Also important to note that fetal stem cells are NOT part of the manufacturing process for ANY vaccines. They’re used in R&D only.
And for whatever it’s worth, I completely agree we should NOT be doing that. There are far too many moral and ethical problems with doing it. And it’s not required; just more difficult.
Either it’s just the flu or it’s a bioweapon. Can’t have it both ways.
And if it’s a bioweapon, it’s the worst one in history. It has an Infection Fatality Rate of 0.64 - 0.66%. That’s just terrible. If you want to make a bioweapon, you use smallpox. Weaponized smallpox would spread across the globe in <60 days and wipe out at least 50%. THAT’S what a bioweapon looks like.

It’s amusing to me to see predictions saying we’re never going to have an effective vaccine when we’ll have 2-5 by the end of the year. Fastest vaccine development program in the history of humanity.

It’s important to be factually correct. I can stick to the facts AND have opinions about those facts.
It’s a FACT that fetal stem cells are only used in R&D as part of viral culturing and compound testing for vaccine development. And it’s my OPINION that using fetal stem cells at ANY stage of the process is morally wrong and should be avoided, especially since we have other viable options.
You see, when you stick to the facts, you can make stronger arguments. When you start with making statements that are verifiable wrong, it’s easier to poke holes in your argument, even if your argument is ultimately right. It makes it so that you just look like you don’t know what you’re talking about for those sitting on the fence making up their minds. When we educate ourselves about topics and speak from a position of knowledge, we come off as more convincing to those who haven’t yet reached their own conclusion. Knowledge is power.
