I’m batting big today.
First, I am confused about what President Trump said about what happens to those deductions after the end of this year.
But I am not alone! It was argued on at least two Sunday talk shows my very same confusion.
What I THOUGHT Trump said was that he would keep the deductions out of paychecks after year end. What Trump meant, at least as deduced via the arguments and debates, was that Trump would not required the missed deductions to be paid back.
Goodness. The concept of not having these deductions to be paid back, as I consider, should be obvious. Joe Blow from Receiving could not ever pay that money back. He’d be like every kinda dumb kid who got tuition advanced to them for a course in Advanced Macramé to spend the rest of their life under the chokehold of a loan paid to brilliant, sparkling professors of Macramé via the cheating colleges who told them life will be good with a career in macramé.
Frankly I’m still confused about all this but moving on.
You are right. The concept of payroll deductions does kinda prevent the average check recipient from realizing how much money goes into taxes. In fact, the way a computer computes payroll tax deducts is based on taking a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly gross pay, multiplying it by 52, 26 or 12. THEN an actual tax table is used to compute what that annual tax will be, and THEN dividing that calculation by 52, 26, or 12, as appropriate. That result is then deducted from the paycheck to arrive at a net pay.
The gubmint does not want people to have sit down every year, calculate their taxes due, then sit down and write a check. Payroll deductions make life a case of “net pay” and that is what matters after a while and the truth of what those monies are really for kinda gets pushed out of the head.
Anyway, didn’t mean to go on. Larry Kudlow, twice today, said that Trump was not intending on cutting out SS and FICA deducts, but to prevent it from having to be paid back.
