Former Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday called President Trump's executive order to cut payroll taxes "a reckless war on Social Security."
One of the several orders Trump signed from his private club in Bedminster, N.J., Saturday afternoon directs the Treasury Department to allow employers to defer payment of employee-side Social Security payroll taxes through the end of the year for Americans making less than roughly $100,000 annually.
Trump also said that he intends to forgive the deferred payroll taxes and make permanent payroll tax cuts if he is reelected in November.
In an emailed statement addressing the president's order, Biden said that such a move would "undermine the entire financial footing of Social Security."
The presumptive Democratic nominee said that unlike the 2012 payroll tax plan put forth by the Obama administration, Trump's executive order does not appear to include "protections or guarantees that the Social Security Trust Fund will be made whole."
"He is laying out his roadmap to cutting Social Security," Biden said. "Our seniors and millions of Americans with disabilities are under enough stress without Trump putting their hard-earned Social Security benefits in doubt."

Oh no, Trump is going to defund their gravy train of cash infusion while issuing IOUs.
Its weird to read some Freepers saying 1) its a Democrat lie that the GOP is going to undercut Social Security ; and 2) Social Security is a Ponzi scheme that should be done away with.
Theres something really inconsistent with those two statements
Any neutral observer who hears conservatives denouncing Social Security is going to be skeptical when the same conservatives turn around and also say its a lie that theyre going to undermine Social Security
I know SS and Medicare are ponzi schemes
No more than any other government program, including the Armed Forces.
Every government program can only keep going if it keeps bringing in tax money , year after year. This is true of private employment too, and private business pensions. If the business doesnt keep operating and bringing in revenue, it cant keep paying out to employees and pensioned retirees
Calling Social Security a Ponzi scheme was a rhetorical ploy developed by Koch brothers-type libertarians who want to kill the program
By the way, true libertarians dont like any government help for anybody. They would also defund the police
Still no better option to help these people since the dems wouldn't budge from their agenda in the HEROES act?
Thank you President Trump!
Oh noes! They are going to take away our Social Security!
Do you favor that?
And end to Social Security and Medicare taxes are not part of it, I'm confident of that.
Trump said on Saturday his goal in his second term would be to make the payroll tax cut permanent. That's pretty explicit; he wants it gone.
Still no better option to help these people since the dems wouldn't budge from their agenda in the HEROES act?
Why not just suspend all income taxes as well as payroll taxes? If you really want to help people. And then in his second term he can eliminate all income and payroll taxes.
So you simply don’t care why, you just want to bitch about it.
You have no better option is all I see.
Then enlighten me. Why?
My preferred option is a Trump second term. Perhaps you can tell me how ending Social Security and Medicare furthers that aim?
Do you?
You have no intention of honestly answering my question.
Whatever.
And he has no chance at a second term if he follows your advice.
True to form, you whine, but have no realistic advice.
Nor do you apparently.
Whatever
Indeed.
Social Security is called the third rail of politics for a reason. How is advocating eliminating the funding for it a winning position for the coming election? Answer that, if you can.
True to form, you whine, but have no realistic advice.
Jared, is that you?
Seems to me you're simply disappointed that the dems didn't get their voter fraud package jammed through the good old fashioned way.
Admit it.
SS goes right to the general fund.
When do the checks stop coming? When do the “reduced benefits” begin?
You already know all the answers to my questions, you’re just being a dick to be a dick. True to form, IMO.
Just the facts
Afraid to answer, eh?
