Former Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday called President Trump's executive order to cut payroll taxes "a reckless war on Social Security."
One of the several orders Trump signed from his private club in Bedminster, N.J., Saturday afternoon directs the Treasury Department to allow employers to defer payment of employee-side Social Security payroll taxes through the end of the year for Americans making less than roughly $100,000 annually.
Trump also said that he intends to forgive the deferred payroll taxes and make permanent payroll tax cuts if he is reelected in November.
In an emailed statement addressing the president's order, Biden said that such a move would "undermine the entire financial footing of Social Security."
The presumptive Democratic nominee said that unlike the 2012 payroll tax plan put forth by the Obama administration, Trump's executive order does not appear to include "protections or guarantees that the Social Security Trust Fund will be made whole."
"He is laying out his roadmap to cutting Social Security," Biden said. "Our seniors and millions of Americans with disabilities are under enough stress without Trump putting their hard-earned Social Security benefits in doubt."

Exactly!!
That Fearper is pushing the lefts drivel.
War on SS, Joe?
You mean like taking the SS surplus each year for the last 5 or 6 decades and adding it into the general fund?
The SS Trust Fund balance is zero.
Thanks, Joe.
It's not the option...It's the perception...One fact is the higher your wages the more you will get back...Those things aren't going to play well for us on CNN...
None of that matters...The fake media will constantly be talking about Trump eliminating the Social Security fund (even tho it doesn't exist) while not allowing Trump defenders any air time to defend the decision...
It strikes me that leaving that money in the economy to help alleviate the plandemic recession makes perfect sense, especially since the dems are stalling in negotiations.
Again my point is made.
Perception.
What would CNN do if President Trump just stands pat and allows those who need this aid to suffer? Which alternative is preferable?
I suppose President Trump should accept the poison pills in the HEROES act? Then CNN will shower him with fawning praise?
LOL! Seriously?
You call THAT an argument?
Oh no, Trump is going to defund their gravy train of cash infusion while issuing IOU’s.
Come on folks...average 15.2% of every dollar earned going to FICA? (SS is capped though).
That’s A LOT OF MONEY they use to fund their skim programs and get rich while “promising” your “insurance fund”.
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT.
“Seniors” are starting to be like me at 60 now.
I know SS and Medicare are ponzi schemes and want them ended. I’d take a one time up from payment from both to opt out.
Some are incapable of seeing that a cut in the payroll tax will be marketed by the Democrats as a direct attack on Social Security. And anyone or anything in any threatening social security will be utterly destroyed politically.
For a lot of people social security and its viability is more important than the Wall, china, ‘climate change’, China, and Russia, all put together.
Biden can relax, our social security lock box trust fund was firmed up during his 8 years with Obama, I’m sure.
He said Saturday that is plan for his second term was to make the payroll tax cuts permanent.
The details being...?
A better option would be not to promise to eliminate Social Security and Medicare funding. I'll let you tell me where I'm wrong.
The socialist’s purposely trying to destroy our economy is the threat to social security and everything else.
I am sure you forgot your sarcasm off tag...
Am I the only one to remember that the Obama/Biden tax cuts of 2010 also cut payroll taxes by 2%, adding $120 million to workers' spendable income?
Cutting payroll taxes is only OK when done by democrats.
Anyone even thinking of *cutting* it should be hung with piano wire. Slowly.
For a lot of people social security and its viability is more important than the Wall, china, climate change, China, and Russia, all put together.
Yes, especially people who dont have any other source of income in their old age. There are millions in that boat, and conservatives who mock them must like losing elections. And also must be confident their own retirement years will be comfortable and safe, and they wont be laid off and jobless before they ever expected to be.
