Sounds nice but I just watched the PBS documentary on Reagan. I rethought the times of his life, many of which I have lived right along with him. My feeling?
This poor nation lives like a puppet on a string controlled by politics and divergent ideologies. We lurch from one path and set of objectives to another at least every eight years if not every two or something like that. How we ever expect to accomplish anything at the pace we change directions is just amazing to me. We succeed in our paltry little lives in spite of ourselves and our politicians and divisions.
Under the mantle of politics and wrangling we Americans somehow soldier on in spite of it all. We deserve better but we can’t even agree on how to get it.
I anguish for our Republic. That it has survived this long can only be Divine Providence. I wonder how much longer He will put up with us?
I agree. I was talking with my husband. Every 2-4 years we go through this huge heartsick angst and trauma, as the two ganster parties fight over the spoils and direction. A few good, honest congressmen and senators and Trump are the small exception. We are in a fight to the death tug of war, this direction and that. Ridiculous immigration, over the top environmental regulations etc, pull one way, leftists are happy, economy crumbles, Repubs get back in a few years, things improve a bit, but you are never certain what is around the next bend. Its not “politics” anymore, its an all out war, just not with bloodshed yet, but it is war with our savings, lifestyle and worldview and freedoms.
