“My advice to New Yorkers is don’t buy a car, cars are the past, future is mass transit, biking, hiking,” the mayor said. “Going forward I will never buy a car again.”

What a kook, will he ride his bike up to Albany? Will he give up taking a suburban to his daily gym?

Uh, he’ll expect the taxpayers to continue to foot the bill for a custom gas limo with driver and protection detail.

Reminds me of then-MA gov Mike Dukakis (2nd time around).

The narrative was that Dukakis commuted by “mass transit” from home to the state house and back.

Back when cell phones were rare, and it wasn’t yet illegal to listen in, a Boston columnist had a transcript of Dukakoids finalizing the details for a Dukakis appearance in Boston.

They wanted to make it look like Dukakis walked from the state house to the appearance, so they arranged to have Dukakis dropped off a block or two away so he could briskly stride into the event.
