There were not that many people in South Africa before the Boer. From what I’ve read, they were mostly hunters and gatherers.
It was the astonishing rise in production and standard of living and the availability of paid work and food that attracted outside tribes in high numbers. Now they are there permanently and they cannot feed themselves. In nearly 400 years, the continental indigenous did not learn how to farm from the Europeans. As you say: the men believed themselves superior to farming. But well-positioned ANC women were also given land and they were just as incapable of meaningful production.
The Prog Left destroyed it, because they were salivating over the prospect of a black communist nation with nukes. No way they will disband the US military if they win here, either. And Americans will not disable their armament as the South Africans purportedly did. (Not certain just how that actually went down, though)
