Tesla Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA) already has some of the most energy-dense electric vehicle batteries available, with the company's Model S able to travel over 400 miles on a single charge.

Now it looks like Tesla's vehicles will be able to travel even farther, as a report from Reuters details Panasonic's (OTC: PCRFY) lans for future improvements.

Over the next five years, Panasonic is planning to increase energy density by 20%, while also having cobalt-free batteries available in the next two to three years, according to Reuters. The 2170 cells that will be receiving these improvements are currently found in Tesla's mass-produced Model 3 and Model Y vehicles.

Removing cobalt from Tesla batteries has long been a goal for CEO Elon Musk.

The power grid can’t handle electrical cars on a major level.”

Can the grid be improved in any way to get to this point? I know that is sort of a novice question, so please forgive me :)

. And the cost of converting sunlight directly into electrons continues to fall, so we don’t have to wait millions of years for it to be in a form we can use.”

interersting if this....plus work from home with covid....ends up dispersing people from hell hole cities and makes a class of sane people who are essentially off grid? is that a possibility?

Transformers are designed to cool down at night. The power grid can't handle electrical cars on a major level.

As long as government doesn't start with new mandates, taxes and incentives, the problem will never materialize. We are not going to go from 500,000 to 200,000,000 overnight. As people in population centers buy cars and charge them overnight, problems with the transformers will start, and we will either build more or different transformers, limits will be put on charging electric cars from home, or people will put up with more outages. Overtime, without interference, the infrastructure will build up, the technology will change, or usage will plateau.

I have a Mid Engine 2020 Corvette Hardtop Convertible on order. Hopefully I’ll get it by Thanksgiving, unless Thanksgiving is outlawed by then.

GM is already working on a Hybrid version that will be all wheel drive with two Electric Motors powering the front wheels. Should be out by 2023.

They already planned the space for the Battery Packs in the new Platform running down the center tunnel.

Rumor has it that they will have an all Electric version coming out a few years after that. The future is here.
