We are one of those depending upon the $600/wk...which is a pittance regarding our normal earnings...but since our last and final fair of 2020 has cancelled, it is all we have to look forward to...now fairs in 2021 are starting to cancel (Indio)...
The Outdoor Entertainment Industry has been wiped...the destruction is near complete...Get a job? Who will hire a broken up 63 year old man? For what wages? What skills. I have worked for myself most of my life-—I can’t work for anyone else.
All I can say is, at least we don’t have renters and at least our house and property is paid.
But people renting....just what are they supposed to do? The Landlord? What are they supposed to do? None of this is their fault...if it weren’t for the Plague...
I know a guy, a friend who is a clown. Had one fair...he posted about it on FB and all the other entertainers are cheering him on...why? Cause he had a job. They don’t begrudge him that job-—they are happy that someone they know is getting work, even if it is a small fair.
We are partaking in a virtual fair. What is that? No one really knows. It hasn’t been done before. Comes up next month. It is at a fair that we have been doing for some ten years...Gotta do something to earn some jack...
Hang in there. This too shall pass. I know the feel of who will hire me? At 63 you can probably get social security...but you are willing and able to work. Perhaps in a freer state?
Typical of the Mitch McConnell attitude of many here.
40 to 50 million unemployed and underemployed (we really don’t know the true number), millions potentially homeless. Millions of new unemployment claims each week. The $600 per week brought me up to 45% of my former wages. Base Colorado unemployment (for me) was only 24% of my former wages.
Good jobs being replaced by subsistence-level McJobs. Whole industries devastated. The US is a service-oriented economy, and those jobs are either gone for good or won’t come back for many years. 60% of small businesses shut and won’t be returning (estimates vary).
I’m wondering why the attitude of some here is that we are all just to lazy to work and we are just trying to game/ cheat the system. It’s basically tough shiite, we got ours, so fsck y’all.
