You may have heard the recent ‘renaming’ internet petition concerning the Aldi Nord grocery chain of Trader Joe’s where certain ‘international’ foods bear ethnic names of “Trader Giotto’s”, “Trader José” and “Trader Ming’s”. The grocery chain hurriedly stated that they were already in a multi-year long process of removing these ‘ethnic’ names labeled as racist by the petition author.
Less known is that this author is a California high-school senior, Briones Bedell, and the number of signers is in the low thousands. So, just the fact that there is a petition and that there are people signing said petition, has little to do with actual facts or logic.
I am getting to be very irritated by these teenagers who think they know it all.
Perhaps they do this because they think it will help their college applications. Well I have news for them. The college of their choice might not even be in business next year.
