Locals scramble to higher ground as world's largest dam faces mounting pressure

People in cities along China's Yangtze River, already swamped with water, are now scrambling to shore up embankments as the world's largest dam faces fast mounting flood pressure...

The Three Gorges Dam spans the Yangtze, Asia's longest river, which has become a raging torrent with storm water pouring into the reservoir of the dam at 60 million litres per second on Monday night.

On Tuesday morning, dam operator the China Three Gorges Group said water flow into the reservoir fluctuated between 50 million and 60 million litres per second.

And the peak flow has not eased, adding more than ten trillion litres to the mega-dam in just 10 days.

All arteries leading from the Yangtze River remain deluged by the third big flood this summer.

The China Three Gorges Group say they plan to hold as much water in the dam as possible to buy time for cities downstream to build up their defences.

According to local reports, the dam's operator has indicated there are 13 days left before the reservoir will fill to the brim.

There isn’t much to see but lots to read and think about. I extracted about 46 typewritten pages of text from it, for references. I do not relish the thought what we can expect as we keep heading further into this cycle and in many places they are already have been getting a taste of it such as India, Japan, Bangladesh as well as China.

Not to mention that just now the temperature in Baghdad hit an all time record of 125 F degrees, while at he same time they had snow flurries in Beijing, and parts of Sweden is shivering through the coldest summer since 1962 - Don’t tell Greta about it. You may or may not recall all the flooding we had last year in Nebraska and a lot of crops were lost and property damaged at he time, again part of this cycle and as time goes on events becoming more severe and prolonged.

Very few people pay attention to all this at least not until it hits home. But these are just some of the weird events which come along with this cycle. All these are signs and events as they are produced by this cycle as it progresses and from looking at historic accounts we may get an idea what we may have to look forward to, and some of it doesn’t look very appetizing.
