Tropical Storm Isaias developed in the Eastern Caribbean Sea. All interests along the Florida Peninsula should be prepared for deteriorating weather conditions by Saturday.
For linguistics aficionados, the National Hurricane Center uses the four-syllable pronunciation ees-ah-EE-ahs. The name Isaias is Spanish for Isaiah. To hear a meteorologist pronounce Isaias: NWS Melbourne.

Ok, thank you for looking!
Is this the 100 mile drive?
Hoping you didn’t lose power. Crazy storm. Astonishing number of tornadoes.
Thanks for your update. Hoping you get your power restored quickly.
Phew! That was stressful. Not as stressful as what y'all go through in the Southern states with Category 1-5 hurricanes, but nerve-wracking just the same.
I know, I saw some of the reports about the incredible number of tornadoes up and down the east coast. Fortunately we had NO tornadoes after all. The scary "rotations" in our area pretty much disappeared just as they were supposed to hit our town at about 3:15 pm.
We did have pretty high winds all afternoon, with 56 mph winds confirmed by two local sources at nearby Bradley International Airport. It calmed down for about 45 minutes, then the winds picked up again. Now I would say it's just "very breezy".
We lost power (briefly) about 15 times this afternoon! (No exaggeration) On and off, on and off, etc. We kept as many important appliances unplugged as possible, including this computer.
Big tree branches and all kinds of debris have littered our entire property. A (not huge) tree cracked in half, and is now resting on another tree. No loss, we have way too many trees here as it is, since we live in the woods, lol.
Overall, we were very lucky. I was worried about a tornado hitting us, and it didn't. :-)
That happened to us this after noon.
I was tracking it on the radar and watching the sky. The clouds were very active, so I videoed them, but there was no tornado. It fizzled just before hitting our area.
We had a fair amount of rain and the winds have not yet been as bad as forecast, but the storm is still to the west of us.
We won't be needing any rain for the next couple weeks and that's a good thing cause the temps are forecast to be stinking hot.
All good news! Thanks for your report. Looking forward to closing the book on Isaias. This storm name should be retired, at the very least because the name is four syllables long. That just isn’t right.
No-she is 8 minutes away.:)They are staying over. One year old is fast asleep and everyone else is playing UNO.Electric back-YEA
Wonderful news! Isaias is in the rear view mirror.
Line man will be on the road for 2 weeks, with Sandy it was a month.Things can change very quickly.
Thank you for your kind feedback. Much appreciated!
Here in Charleston SC, black women newsies couldn’t pronounce the name. They just gave up. Expect to never see multisylable hurricane names again.
LOL! You should've heard the RINO governor of Massachusetts Charlie Baker try to pronounce Isaias. He stumbled over it numerous times, and finally gave up, too. What a dweeb!
I'm SO sick of hearing EE-sah-ee-as. Over and over again. I hope the name of the next hurricane is Joe.
I lost power around 3 - 4 PM in North central CT. Came back on a few minutes later but only have one leg, so no AC now. Fridge still works and a few extension cords get me internet.
Lots of small branches down in my area, but a little bit away some huge trees down. The local grocery store was out, so no perishable foods. A manager said 60-80 stores are out in the region and one of their DCs is inaccessible due to trees down so they are having problems getting reefer trailers out to the stores to load product into.
Yes, I can't complain overall. Thank you for your awesome thread! Never thought we'd be affected that much by this Tropical Storm. Ya never know with these things... as you know.
I couldn't agree with you more about closing the book on Isaias, and for retiring the damn name. As I said in my previous post to you, I don't ever want to hear this name again (as a hurricane name anyway). Four syllables long is ridiculous! Unless you're forecasting on Telemundo, etc.
Wow! Where did all these trees come down?? We're in northern CT too.
Really sorry to hear about your AC. Hope that gets back up soon.
Was New Hampshire in a drought situation too before this tropical storm? It's been awfully stinking hot all summer here in CT. Seems like it's been a few years since we've had to run the A/C like this 24/7 for weeks and weeks. Usually we get a nice (temporary) break between heat waves. This summer has been one long continuous heat wave!
Glad all is well in your area, and no tornadoes materialized.
