The Trump administration is sending additional federal agents and funding to Cleveland, Milwaukee and Detroit, expanding a program that has targeted Democratic-run cities facing increases in violent crime.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the deployment of dozens of federal officers to the three cities to assist local law enforcement as part of Operation Legend. The administration has already sent agents to Kansas City, Mo., and Chicago as part of the program as Democratic leaders express reluctance about the government's intentions amid clashes involving the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in Portland, Ore.
"For decades, the Department of Justice has achieved significant success when utilizing our anti-violent crime task forces and federal law enforcement agents to enforce federal law and assist American cities that are experiencing upticks in violent crime," Attorney General William Barr said in a statement. "The Department of Justice’s assets will supplement local law enforcement efforts, as we work together to take the shooters and chronic violent criminals off of our streets.”
The DOJ is sending more than 25 federal investigators from the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to Cleveland to assist state and local law enforcement focused on gang activity, gun violence and drug trafficking. The city's police department will also receive $10 million to fund the hiring of additional officers.

Yes, these may politically be democrat strongholds, but they seem comparatively quiet on the streets. Seems like something more behind this. Perhaps this has more to do with counter-insurgency then actual criminal response.

It’s about crime. It’s not the same thing that is happening in Portland, that is “Operation Diligent Valor” and is for the protection of the Federal Building.
This is part of “Operation Legend” and is merely adding to Federal official that are already present in these cities and always have been. It’s extra FBI, DOJ, ATF etc personal to bolster what is there and work in conjunction with the city/county/state police as they always have, this just adds manpower to overworked local police.
Each squad could carry a name to honor why they were needed. Either the local mayor or perhaps one of the National scene politicians that’s promoted or encouraged or enabled or defended the Democrat Nazi communist DNC street gangsters. Give those responsible full “credit” for bringing this burgle loot and murder BLM violence into us.

The problem is there is no head to cut off. Antifa is more of a message than a movement; they don’t have an identifiable leader.
They have designated chapters on Facebook, Twitter, and numerous other social media sights. Get the URL and charge the owner with terrorism.
Good luck connecting the site owner with the actual thugs doing the rioting and looting though. They’ll just say, “I just want to end racial injustice blah blah blah. I didn’t tell them to smash things.” An examination of the website will show no overt calls to violence, just coded phrases, dog whistles if you will. Enough to cause reasonable doubt in at least one juror’s mind and that’s all it takes.
I wouldn’t bother. But I guess he thinks it will impress the conservative voters in those states.

I’d guess there’s some leadership elements of Antifa and BLM in Detroit. They may have run away from all the action on the left coast and are hiding in leftist safehouses in Detroit. And the feds need to do a bit of listening and tracking in Detroit to deliver a fatal blow to the radical fascists and commies in Portland and Seattle.
It would be nice to be on offense instead of defense.
He was grilling the very guys responsible and asking them if they agreed it was a problem. Wasted a lot of time instead of accusing them of being the problem he implored the very ones who created the problem to solve it.
