We each decide for ourselves. There's a lot of clashing information and hysteria out there.

Before the 20th, very few people were wearing masks in the stores. Now they're hiding from the stores. Business is slow. Herds, you know. Most people like to follow the majority.

I lived in a remote place for a long time and don't conform much any more.

Actually we can't decide for ourselves as you stated. Not when it's “required” and posted so before entering a business etc. They can ask you to leave.

Further they keep adding new threats, from how you dispose of disposable gloves, to how many times you can wear a mask. etc.etc.

It's getting absolutely ridiculous.
