Barry Sanders and Billy Sims were the singular highlights of the Lions.

I don’t know what kind of pipeline there is to Oklahoma.

It’s a mind vacation, it’s supposed to be relaxing, entertaining. But I won’t watch this political protest. F*ck those millionaires, most of which are “woke” to save their own bacon. Living in a gated community, surrounded by security, they don’t know or care. “I see my brothers are protesting, so I better protest too or I’ll get the Drew Brees treatment”.

> Baseball is back already

Tried watching one of the games. The announcers have fake crowd noise piped into the background when the game is being played in an empty stadium. Fake, fake, fake.

Like watching college football and minor league baseball and F1. Sometimes folk on occasion.

Like listening to MLB on the radio.

Other than that, no interest.

Right now with long term contracts the players, teams, networks and advertisers are playing one big game of chicken. I won't which will break first.

Will the advertisers look at the ratings and either drop out or demand to pay less? Or will they be guilted/threatened into keeping up payments even if they aren't economically viable?

Will the networks demand immediate renegotiation of their contracts because of lack of games and championships or will they just wait until contracts expire and then offer less or just let them lapse?

Will the teams change? Will they continue sponsored on field politics or demand players leave it in the locker room? Will they insist networks pay them as much as now? Will they start offering players smaller contracts?

Will the players start behaving or will they continue to insult the nation by focusing on the "Woke" rather than the win?

I bet on the networks breaking first. Every other point can be postponed or done incrementally in hopes of weathering both the disease and social storms. But when those multi billion dollars contracts come due then big decisions will have to be made. They will have to decide how much to cut the offers. Some might even declare bankruptcy to bail out early.

I wonder when the primadonnas will realize that their gravy train is about to end.

Maybe the covid thing is destroying the professional sports business. And without a viable business, the players have to be furloughed.

Good riddance.

I love sports. Having participated in years past, now it’s just as a spectator. But professional sports have been politicized to the point I shall not watch. I’m finished with them. College sports yes, love it. But if they continue down the same political path I’ll discontinue watching.

Pro sports exists because of taxpayer-funded corporate welfare. Stadiums now cost over a billion to build.

I’m sure the leases and agreements require the teams to not engage in political speech. That’s entirely what BLM is. It’s an organized political entity that donates cash exclusively to Democrats.

Why are we funding this nonsense?

We need lawsuits to shut the nonsense down.

Don’t forget “ college “ sports.

They’re also infected with the same WOKE virus.

Unfortunately, they are history with me as well.

I’m not nor have I ever been a fan of any stick and ball sports. I’ve probably seen about five full football games, one or two basketball and a couple dozen full baseball games. A few years ago, I was given tickets to see the Baltimore Ravens the year after they won the super bowl. Club level tickets with free parking and food.

I gave them to a friend.

Derek Hunter neglected to mention NASCAR, of which I was a fan. Until this year. Allowing that little twerp Bubba Wallace to drag out the race card and make everyone leave him alone on the track to affect the competition made me reevaluate my support.

Then NASCAR announced that teams were free to disrespect the flag during opening ceremonies.

I sent NASCAR an email. I’m no longer a fan. I attended three races in the last couple seasons.

I’ve completely shut it off. I think there were three races in the last couple weeks. I guess.

Excellent comments here.

As I got older and moved about the country, I got less and less attached to my "hometown teams" and only casually followed baseball, football and to a lesser extent, hockey. Modern basketball doesn't appeal to me for the reasons described here - 7 foot men jumping a foot to slam dunk a ball into a net is stupid to me. It was a better game when shorter men had to master dribbling and passing skills and shoot from 20 feet out.

But this politicization of sports has taken away all the remaining appeal they had for me. Instead, there are a lot of good books to read, hikes to take and old movies to catch up on for my entertainment needs.

Years ago we dropped network TV, then cable, then satellite. Over time, I stopped watching baseball (too boring and long), football (just doesn’t do it much for me anymore), and lastly hockey when I gave up my season tickets to the Redwings after their dream team stretch was over. We even stopped watching the Olympics, even though my wife is a former member of the USA Gymnastics team (she’ll stream an occasional event, but not frequently).

Now, we watch an occasional streamed series (we’re very picky and really only have like two that we watch at a time — and even then, they’re stretched over a long period) and rarely a movie if one seems interesting (less and less these days).

Somehow, though I grew up with television shows, movies, and sporting events on all the time, we don’t feel any sort of vacuum in our lives when we see the big screen in the living room totally black. I’m never sitting around wondering what to do, and my time is completely filled from the moment I get up until I hit the bed around 11:00 pm. If anything, I feel those video days were a waste now, and I wonder why I spent the time I did on them.

I don’t want to be lectured to by athletes or actors/singers with celebrity privilege.
