There is only one reason for kneeling during the national anthem and that is is to show disrespect, just as standing with hand over heart is to show respect.

Veterans may salute. I do at military funerals I’ve attended and have noticed other vets did too.
Of course salute in lieu of hand over heart by vets and active military shows respect.
