KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — At first, the cheers for U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz were louder than those for the man he came to stump for Friday morning, but that changed.
Cruz, R-Texas, came to Knoxville in support of Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Dr. Manny Sethi and a crowd of nearly 200 people crammed inside a dining room of the Southern Rail Station to hear from the two as Sethi attempts to go toe-to-toe with Bill Hagerty, the former U.S. ambassador to Japan.
The race has both tightened and gotten uglier in recent weeks ahead of the August 6 Election Day. Both candidates have slammed airwaves with attack ads, aimed at outdoing the other’s Republican, small government, against the liberals, Washington outsider-styled message.
Cruz, the popular libertarian who ran unsuccessfully for president in 2016, said Hagerty’s team has gone negative because they’re scared and that Sethi should take it as a compliment.
“I told him, ‘Listen, these ads, you ought to take as a compliment,’” Cruz said. “They’re running those ads for the same reason the government of China went after me (China recently sanctioned Cruz). Because they’re scared. The Washington swamp always tells you who they’re scared of.”
Sethi acknowledged this and told his supporters to stand strong over the next few weeks, saying Hagerty would “throw the kitchen sink” at them in trying to win.

The Primary for US Senate is August 6th.
This nasty type of fighting turns the voters off. It needs to stop, lest the seat be lost.

If nothing else, Dr. Manny’s television ads display a combative spirit. He or Haggerty would be an improvement over Lamar, who is way past his expiration date.

All the right people have endorsed Dr. Manny. He is a political outsider. We need more of those in Congress for sure.
If Rand has endorsed him you can be sure he has vetted him carefully.
Alexander must be one of the worst senators i’ve come across.
He has been there nearly 20 years and done nothing but vote for every spending bill and every piece of cr*p legislation you can think of. He is very similar to McConnell.

Lamar was a big part of the group of Republican lawyers who wrested Tennessee from Democrat control in the 60’s and 70’s. It’s all gone very much past him. Time to retire ... well past time.
His Campaign Manager was John Kaisch top aide and a huge Never Trumper .

Donald Trump has endorsed Hagerty.
Same can be said for McConnell in Kentucky and many other senators.
They make a name for themselves within their home state and then or some reason they lose their bonafides when in DC. Power corrupts!

Trump does not have time to know or care about a senate race in TN.
All the conservatives are supporting Manny who will not vote for big spending,
Just because a campaign manager worked for another campaign does not mean that the guy he now works for supports that politician
Campaign managers go around and are hired by various campaigns. There’s very few of them who are capable within the GOP.

What matters is the endorsements of proper conservatives like Rand and Cruz. They want another political outsider to join them in the Senate and hold the line against big spending not a former Ambassador who is likely to just go along with everything ... Like Lamar Alexander for instance

The voters in TN will decide on Aug 6th. i hope they choose this doctor guy. He is quite impressive and if Rand endorsed him you can be sure he has been vetted.

I guarantee you Rand takes it very seriously when he endorses someone .
Chances are he’s actually met the guy and checked him out thoroughly. He is cutting ads for him etc. so this must be the case.
Trump does not have the time or inclination to care about a senate race. He is told who to support by the turtle
Tennessee voter here. Sethi appears to be the better candidate. Hagerty’s late, desperate ad campaign is repugnantly deceptive and disingenuous. If the race were a month longer, Sethi would win handily. As it is, it will be close.
He does seem to have energy and is an outsider that’s why I like him.
He lacks name recognition though so we will have to see what happens...
