I can’t imagine living there with these types of psychopaths in power, especially if you have kids!
While I’m not in the city, I’m close enough to hear horror stories. Kids are shot almost daily and usually at random, because they happen to be near a target. These are families who are too poor to get out, because they’re either piled with debt or barely scraping by as it is, and can’t put away any money to move.
A lot of it is cultural, too. Out of wedlock births, creating untold levels of imbalance in children who grow up with bangers on the streets instead of real parents, and who seem to believe that they aren’t worth anything; though they wouldn’t admit it. That’s why they’re so willing to throw their lives away in a culture of violence and death for whatever material gain they can have in the moment. They never learned to delay gratification, because they didn’t have parents to teach them.
And the cycle continues endlessly until it worsens to the point of... Well... Chicago.
