The SR71 is still the fastest known jet aircraft. And it was built and flown by 1965. It had metals that they had to get through back channels from the then USSR. It had far advanced computers.

A-12 flew faster and higher and was iterated in design details to become the SR-71. Some documentation of the J-79 engine indicates an operational envelope to 4.2M.
