I think many of us have taken that question over the last 4 years. Donald Trump is a flawed person. That’s true of everyone, but he had a lot of baggage. He was also completely from outside the political system. Why didn’t the political system provide a suitable candidate with Trump’s obviously popular views?

“Conservative” media was appalled by Trump and his stances, but the people identified with him. We voted for Trump based on the issues. He broke from the 1988 to 2016 neocon orthodoxy. Those issues were just sitting there waiting for someone to use. He did it. The opposition he has faced from both sides has been amazing.

We all voted for Trump because he was the only one championing issues that we wanted in the foreground.
