So, on every battlefield of the Civil War, between 1861 and Lees Surrender in April 1865, which side was fighting to end slavery?

Neither. But the South was definitely fighting to protect slavery.

That’s like saying my family, three of us US Army Veterans, including tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and a Purple Heart - that history could be re-written someday that we soldiers ‘...were definitely fighting to protect abortion...’
