Sen. Rand Paul, a long-time critic of Rep. Liz Cheney, joined the conservative pile-on of the Wyoming Republican, saying on Wednesday: "I don't think she's good for the country" and accused her of trying to "sabotage" President Donald Trump's foreign policy.
Paul, a libertarian-minded Republican, has long sparred with Cheney, who supports hawkish views on national security. And asked about House conservatives lashing out at Cheney behind closed doors, Paul joined in on the criticism in an interview with CNN.
"I mean she tries to sabotage everything he tries to do in foreign policy, so I don't know whether she's a good advocate for the President or not," Paul said when asked if he thinks she should remain as a congressional co-captain for the Trump campaign's finance committee.
Cheney has broken with Trump over pulling US troops from Germany and Afghanistan, warning in June for instance of "a serious error" with "grave consequences" if US troops were to be pulled out of Germany.
"I think one of the good things about President Trump is he's tried to end the war in Afghanistan after 20 years," Paul said. "Liz Cheney was one of the main obstacles to ending the war."
Paul added: "I'm not a big fan of the perpetual war caucus. And these are the neoconservatives in our party that really try to prevent us from trying to disengage from a war."

Do you feel dirty? It’s OK, you know...
What is your main disagreement with Rand?
There are some people who make a lot of money from endless wars, and keeping troops in Germany.
Force projection. Being in Germany has almost nothing to do with Germany at this point.
I agree with Rand Paul on this subject.
But he’s not always right.

It was a false argument to begin with.
Looks like someone else agrees with Rand on this topic.
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump
Liz Cheney is only upset because I have been actively getting our great and beautiful Country out of the ridiculous and costly Endless Wars. I am also making our so-called allies pay tens of billions of dollars in delinquent military costs. They must, at least, treat us fairly!!!

I think you should take the good with the bad in this case
“Force projection. Being in Germany has almost nothing to do with Germany at this point.”
Agreed.
The occupation forces were initially intended to purge the NAZI remnants and ensure another German warmonger didn’t arise to cause more trouble.
That mission was quickly eclipsed by the threat of the Soviet Union. Foreward bases were deemed essential in case the Soviet army came streaming through the Fulda Gap.
Since the Soviet union collapsed those bases have had little use. We could easily halve our personnel there and never miss a beat.
IMVHO the only reason for bases in Germany is to protect Eastern Europe from the islamofascists currently overrunning western Europe.
Those bases could easily be moved to Poland except Russia would pitch a fit.
Paul is an odd duck but he’s certainly true to his principles. I feel like he really misses the mark sometimes but I appreciate him pulling away from the war hawk, Neocon influence over the party.
I know he can infuriate Freepers especially with his stance on fed police but I suspect most here would agree with him 90% of the time.
They’re are certainly times he makes me want to stand up and cheer. Even when I disagree it is evident that he has the courage to speak up for his beliefs and defend them in a way that most are afraid to do.
That being said, his tenacity is not always helpful to conservativism.
Yeah... That says it all.
I agree with Mr Paul more and more each day.
I agree with Rand here. I agree with him a lot. Sometimes I totally DISAGREE with him.
He’s a mixed bag. More right than wrong. He is a man of his principles, I like that!
