A Way to Take Back Portland
The Wall Street Journal ^ | July 22, 2020 | Ted Cruz

Posted on 07/22/2020 1:19:40 PM PDT by JeepersFreepers

My bill would hold officials accountable for failing to protect their constituents.

The area radicals took over in Portland last week is the second autonomous zone lawless criminals have set up in the city during the eight weeks of riots since the death of George Floyd. Fringe progressives have also set up autonomous protest zones in six other cities in the past few weeks—in Asheville, N.C.; New York; Philadelphia; Richmond, Va.; Seattle and Washington.

These radicals hate the police, reject the rule of law, and are intent on terrorizing their communities. In Seattle, police were forced to abandon the precinct building in “CHAZ” and city officials told the police they could respond to calls for help only in the event of mass casualties. Families and business owners were left to fend for themselves.

This is not the American way. Local leaders who allow rioters to destroy lives and businesses need to be held accountable. That’s why I’m introducing the Restitution for Economic losses Caused by Leaders who Allow Insurrection and Mayhem Act—Reclaim for short. The bill would hold state and local officials liable when they abdicate their legal duty to protect the public in cases where death, serious bodily harm or significant property damage have occurred.

Specifically, my bill would allow for treble damages, meaning a plaintiff could be awarded triple the amount of the damage done to his property. It would also establish a federal cause of action, which would empower victims of violence in autonomous zones to take legal action against senior local or state lawmakers who have tolerated or encouraged radicals to take over the area. Finally, when politicians refuse to defend innocent Americans, this bill would remove or limit federal funding under grant programs that supply important law-enforcement and crime-prevention programs for local governments.

Trump doesn’t have that many friends in Congress and Ted Cruz is one of the few friends he has.

I’ve got a new/fun habit. Every night I fully “dox” one leftist organizer and add them to my “naughty list”. The detective work required is a good challenge.

I’m thinking that “friends lists” will lead me to still more naughties.

Last night I located one 30-year-old ANTIFA organizer whose parent is an extremely successful lawyer, and who is in their last year of law school.

Very “privileged”!

If the government has to take responsibility for you, it will also take authority over you to that extent, or more. No thanks.

Won't pass the House.

Okay, then the "nays" will be on record, and it's an election year.

I still say water cannons, bean bag shells and rock salt to the legs.

All non lethal, and watching someone writhe on tbe ground screaming from a rock salt load would discourage anyone nearby. And it burns till you pick it out with tweezers...one piece at a time...

Meanwhile, arrest all the leaders they can find on federal charges the local courts can’t drop.

And how exactly does this take back anything? The cops that haven’t retired or on disability have quit. Its time to declare BLM and ANTIFA as domestic enemies and terrorists. Therefore any financal aid or public officials that support them are enemies ofr the state and as a result got to jail. Time to mow these muthaphuckers down and stack their bodies into a wall. Id the familis who pick up the bodies and sue them for conspiracy.

he is one of the few Republican senators speaking out

He's the only one I've seen so far. My career Congresscreeps from Oklahoma are hiding under their desks, making sure they don't say anything that might offend Oklahoma blax.

You are correct... I retract it...
Although Cruz does seem to exist in some sort of sleep state that is often displayed by the symptom best described as "clueless"...

Hold them personally accountable or taxpayers would fund lawsuits.

kaehurowing @5: "Use snipers to take out the most violent ones. It will end quickly."

And then arrest all of the surviving rioters and charge them with first degree murder under the felony murder rule!

I can support this.

It’s a shame Cruz is so hot and cold. We need someone with some manhood to take a stand on what’s right and not waver.

More than one.

I usually am in lock step with my Senator. However on this one, we do not need new laws, we need to use lethal force. Our country is slipping over and into the abyss. More laws will not help, examples are needed

I like Ted Cruz. He’s a feisty one and frankly we NEED feisty people in our camp. Not perfect?? Well he’s good enough and then some. I like this bill too

Partner, we have always liked Ted Cruz except when he went after our elected POTUS.

I think the Republicans need to quit letting the DemonRat party let them be pushed around.

The Republicans need to start fighting back these DemonRats.

Partner, the DemonRat Mayors that are in charge on these cities which are seeing the riots, looting, and fires are the ones to blame for the BLM and Antifa riots all over these cities.
