The whole family caught it and maybe the two youngest went to the doctor. I remember the body aches and moderate high fever more than other symptoms. Drank a lot of water and orange juice and took aspirin to lower the fever. I didn’t have a lot of sick leave at the time and probably only was off work for four or five days. After a week and a half or two weeks I was back to normal.
Never needed the vaccine since I had the virus before the vaccine was ready.
Got the flu in 68 while home from army. My neighborhood doc called army clinic and said I should be home in bed for four days to recover. Clinic said he must report here 40 miles away. He yelled into phone that he had been medical officer with Paton in n Africa in 42 and as bad as things were I would have been in hospital there. Doc said tell him to stay home for a week!
