Sweden had one of the most relaxed COVID-19 lockdowns in the world. There's growing evidence that it helped it weather 2020's economic storm better than anywhere else.

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Sweden has drawn international attention for its unorthodox approach to managing the virus' spread. The Nordic state didn't impose strict lockdown measures, instead asking citizens to stay home if they were sick and to practice social distancing in public. Bars, restaurants, and shops stayed open, even when cases peaked in the country. Its relaxed coronavirus strategy, relying on personal responsibility and willful obedience, has been both praised and criticized. And while the jury is still out on the effectiveness of the country's public-health approach, there is growing evidence that, economically speaking, the loose rules seem to have worked.

Nothing is perfect but i think they got it right. My question is, where did Newsom get the idea for lock downs? He was the first to do it and all the rat governors creamed their pants and followed suit.

Money doesn’t grow on trees. People have to work to create value.

It is time to open up our Country. The elderly like myself and those who have medical issues need to stay home as much as possible if they want to avoid the virus. Some elderly may feel invincible. If so, they are free to go about their business. But open up our Country for Pete’s sake.

Maybe Mother Nature and our grandmothers knew how to manage these flus better than high priced A$$holes who never saw a real patient in ERs or critical care units.

Better yet, good FP, IMs and Peds, who used common sense: rest, liquids, sunshine and isolation to handle 99.99% of the flu cases.

We have subversive (Ok maybe that is too conspiratorial) elements in America that have a primary agenda of grabbing power and money often at the expense of society. They want power and the impact on society be damned.

We had an opportunity in America to see what was working in Europe and in other countries that were experiencing this ahead of us. It seemed that we wanted everything to be invented here instead of using the experience of others.. This is primarily a Dem wanting power trait, but the GOP isn’t totally innocent.

I presume they are open “fully”, as opposed to “limited”?

That’s another thing we see is lockdown/limited/etc.

But people were complaining that Sweden’s COVID death rate was much higher than neighboring Norway and Denmark, both of which did have tighter lockdowns.

Sweden’s policy resulted in a huge number of deaths, magnitudes higher than the countries around it.

None of the BS we see would be happening if this had hit after the election. Conversely because this hit 6 months before Trumps re-election nothing could have stopped it.

Sweden understood that there are at least two (and in the US, THREE) axes to consider in tackling the pandemic

1. Deaths from the rona (the only thing the Left, the Mecia, and the Derp State are worried about.)

2. The economic impact of the lockdown

3. Social unrest due to the measures taken to supress the virus and the economy.

Swedish epidemiology boss says questioned COVID-19 strategy seems to be working

“Chief epidemiologist Anders Tegnell of the public health agency said a rapid slowdown in the spread of the virus indicated very strongly that Sweden had reached relatively widespread immunity...

Daily COVID-19 death rates as well as the number of infected in intensive care have been slowing gradually since April, with seven new deaths and no new ICU admissions reported by the health agency.

...It really is yet another sign that the Swedish strategy is working,” Tegnell said. It is possible to slow contagion fast with the measures we are taking in Sweden.”

Sweden’s per capita death rate was 35 per 100,000 as of May 15. Meanwhile, Denmark’s death rate was 9.3 per 100,000, Finland’s 5.2 and Norway’s 4.7. All three neighboring countries enacted stricter policies. For comparison, the United States had 24 COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 as of May 15.

“helped it weather the 2020 economic storm”?

That economic storm’s still going on. Got a little ways to go yet, before Dec 31st.
