The Governor and the tribes are talking things over even today. It’ll all get straightened out soon enough, just needs the Governor to back off on some stuff he’s been pushing lately... Having to do with money...
BTW I had a brief talk with a Cherokee yesterday, a young guy who was an Army vet as an MP. He said he’d much rather be in trouble with the state than with the tribe... Which is what this is all about, criminal jurisdiction...
Back in the day the tribal light horsemen were the police, prosecution, judge, jury, and executioner. Time in jail was often traded off for lashes at the whipping post. Abortion could get a woman or an abortionist 50 lashes. Not exactly a bunch of liberals.
