Madam Mao among others was arrested after Mao died If I remember correctly tried and convicted. One faction at her trial wanted her sentenced to the Death of a Thousand cuts. I don’ recall if she was or not, but I think that due to her age she was allowed to die a natural death. There were millions of deaths from the Cultural Revolution and the Great Leap Forward after it. I recall reading about it now and then.

I worked in China the last year of the cultural revolution, 1976. I arrived in Beijing two weeks after Mao died. I was there to start up the steam plant in a fertilizer factory being constructed in the Yunnan Province. There were days when no workers would show up at the plant to do any work. They would all go to political rallies, bring pots and pans to bang, everybody had their little red book of Chairman Mao to wave in the air and every person wore the same gray Mao suit. It was shocking to see that coming from the USA.

The cultural revolution is upon us here and we are not far from witnessing what I saw 44 years ago.
