Lincoln initiated it. He started the war deliberately. Look it up. His own letter to his naval commander afterwards confirms it.

So you're saying that the southern leaders of the rebellion were so dumb that they fell into Lincoln's trap and fired on Sumter? Doesn't say a lot about them, does it?

Apparently not, as it turned out. Nope. It had. Nothing that occurred afterward has changed the legality of it. So you're saying that the southern leaders of the rebellion were so dumb that they fell into Lincoln's trap and fired on Sumter? Doesn't say a lot about them, does it? No, I'm saying they had no choice. It was be invaded without defending themselves or defend themselves. That's pretty much the choice everybody is put to when attacked as they were.
