It’s far worse than I thought. In addition to the many links between the family that owns The New York Times and the Civil War Confederacy, new evidence shows that members of the extended family were slaveholders.
Last Sunday, I recounted that Bertha Levy Ochs, the mother of Times patriarch Adolph S. Ochs, supported the South and slavery. She was caught smuggling medicine to Confederates in a baby carriage and her brother Oscar joined the rebel army.
I have since learned that, according to a family history, Oscar Levy fought alongside two Mississippi cousins, meaning at least three members of Bertha’s family fought for secession.

What do people born into that family in later years have to do with it?
Judah P. Benjamin was a Jew born in London, England, and he was a slaveowner. Served as U.S. Senator from La., then quit and joined the Confederacy. Served there as Attorney General, Sec. of War, and Sec. of State. When Richmond fell, he fled back to England, and that’s where he died.
They also cozied up to Hitler too.
Everything. If they are going to blame us and make us pay reparations, then the New York Times should be held accountable for the actions of its founders and should be first in line to pay.
What do people born into that family in later years have to do with it?
We might think of them as living modern day statues commemorating their ancestors. If people can be offended by metal and stone than why not of people.
If they were white liberal slave owners, it doesn’t matter. If they were white Conservative slave owners, now we have a whole different ball game.
Probably why they are such staunch Democrats... They hate the Republicans for taking away their slaves.

Ridicule of hypocrisy is as important in a Cold War as bullets in a shooting war. The longer you can put off the shooting, the better, because you can win hearts to your side and (maybe) cool things down.
Civil war is nothing to be wished for. History shows that once it starts It dissolves to chaos quickly; suffering and misery follow.
