Fauci urges governments to be 'as forceful as possible' on mask rules

Dr. Anthony Fauci said Friday state and local government leaders should be "as forceful as possible" in urging the wearing of face masks to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus, which the top infectious disease expert says is still in the first wave in the United States and has hit Americans "very severely."

Fauci said the United States needs "to get better control" over COVID-19 and masks must be a priority as the country opens up.

"I would urge the leaders -- the local, political and other leaders -- in states and cities and towns to be as forceful as possible in getting your citizenry to wear masks," Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said during a video conference with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

"...Physical distancing is the most important, but practically when you're living your life and trying to open up the country. You are going to come into contact with people. And for that reason, we know that masks are really important. And we should be using them. Everyone."

How many needed hospital care ... good question! As far as I know, maybe one. An older Hispanic guy. Language barrier in talking to people that know him. But he is doing well. DD, her nurse roommate who gave it to her, and DD’s fiance had mild illness and recovered at home. One of the guys in my department is younger, which is good, but gay with underlying health problems, which is bad. Not sure about him. I guess if he were seriously ill or in the hospital we would have heard.

If that were true, everyone would have been wearing a mask full time for the last century.

The meaning of "complementary" is that they achieve the same goal. One or the other will work, but both together works better. People did indeed wear masks in 1918, lots of them in lots of places e.g.outdoor sporting events. Masks slowed the spread and impact of H1N1 and herd immunity did the rest.

fauxi ignores the fact that mask wearing in March/April was nil and in May/June was 100% increased and July with the mandates a large percentage are and have been masked much longer than their 2 week target periods.

So, what's his esteemed thoughts on this supposed unprecedented surge in 'cases' if mask wearing went from zero to 70% the past few months?

Phony overstated test results, counting all deaths as covid, buying faulty tests, paying a bounty for new 'cases'. No room for fraud now is there?

Re: “The meaning of “complementary” is that they achieve the same goal.”

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought you misspelled complimentary.

The point of my previous post was that if masking actually prevents infections, then it is impossible to achieve herd immunity, for COVID, or for any other respiratory infection.

I think we all agree that it doesn't. Masking only slows spread in some cases. It will probably prevent super-spreading events.
