“But if you have a coughing problem, should you be walking around in crowds?”

Sure. What’s the difference between coughing and breaking?? Both exhale droplets that can contain virus, virus like the flu and the coronavirus that is the common cold.

The masks stops some droplets. The only question is how much compared to the dose needed for infection.

This is exactly what I have tried to explain to people.

Some? Only large ones that fall straight to the ground anyway. Those have never been the issue.

Mask are stupid. Really, really, stupid. They are a flag of ignorance.

So, you have this disease soaked rag on your face.

Feel stupid yet?

I have disposable masks which I set aside and reuse unless I was in a disease soaked environment like a store full of coughing people. I don't really like the mask nor do I think it is very effective. But I believe, from the science, that it is better than nothing. I have adequate evidence and more is coming all the time.

In contrast I keep seeing the same NEJM link (paper has no data and no references to data), and the same Japanese stufy of 33 people as evidence they don't work. I think those are stupid. There are probably more that are not, and I am willing to read more.

As someone who actually worked with real respiratory hazards, the way many of these people handle masks embarrasses me. holes in your mask allow you to inhale mold spores, dust, and of course, viruses and bacteria. Also if you don’t change your mask then your mask could grow mold too. Plus if you have a coughing problem, you simply should not be out in public, period, unless you have to be moved through a crowd as part of an emergency.

We will find out later the wearing of these masks on a regular basis causes damage to your lungs and deprives oxygen to your organs.

That above reality is making the Karens and Howard Hughes into vicious low lifes.

That's a pretty useless meme. I am not trying to protect myself from virus particles all day long, just droplets in casual contact in a store. They may fall to the floor but some will float a bit farther.

Furthermore I agree a bandana doesn't work. I don't use a bandana.

Don’t people wear them because of air pollution?

I have a cloth mask for shopping and an N95 for things like getting my hair cut. Neither mask is perfect but I’m not looking for perfection - I looking to increase the odds for myself and others around me.

Your mask is shot within 1 hour. Your breath soaks it then it is useless.

Wearing masks while taking care of sick patients or in the OR is not the same as having to wear them just to go grocery shopping. If you’re coughing or sneezing stay home. If not, safe distance and ditch the stupid mask.

no kidding I worked 13-14 hour shifts for primary runoff in Houston in a very old & stuffy church gym...horrible AC high humidity.
The county made us wear a mask plus one of those goofy plexiglass face covers...I could barely breathe!!!
2 weeks of this...

” just droplets in casual contact in a store”

Then no mask you wear will do that.

Again, you fail to understand the small size of these droplets and the size of a virus. We’re talking vapor here, not droplets.

You have already been exposed to this virus, guaranteed. Are you dead yet? Did you bleed out your eyes? Did you fall dead on the spot??

This is a virus that is so terrible, deadly, going to kill us all that they have to test people to find out if they have been exposed to it!

We really stopped teaching science in this country and it shows.

I don't spend an hour in a store. I also know when my breath has dampened the mask. It happens sometimes and I ought to bring along a spare. I never wear a mask outside (I was forced to in RI once). I am using a mask in air conditioned spaces and it is not "soaked", but sometimes it does get damp if there's not enough AC.

Within months, perhaps no more than a year, everybody in the country will have contracted COVID-19, and a bunch of other viruses.

Just a moment of negligence and when you least expected it, you will come in contact with corona-virus. The only way to prevent getting infected, is to go into a cave and hibernate for the next year, and don’t come out until a vaccine has been developed and proven to work. Everybody gets the cold, sooner or later, and multiple times in their lives, and cornonavirus will be around forever, just like the cold and flu viruses.
