The major issue for me is whether the hull below waterline is now admitting water from burn-throughs or stress-induced fractures. If that is going on, the best-case scenario is for the ship to sink at pierside. The worst case is for it to capsize at pierside. Even if such leaks are not occuring now, they might occur later as the interior fire continues.
Its amazing just how much damage a warship can take and NOT sink.
Thank you for that information. I’m an Army guy and only know about ships from mostly what I’ve read in histories of the US Navy in WW2. I had remembered a story about a navy ship, possibly an aircraft carrier, that got a list from firefighting water and eventually capsized. I think it was after being hit by Kamikazes.
