Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, believes "the most powerful weapon we have" against the novel coronavirus is wearing face coverings, washing hands and "being smart about social distancing."
"If we all rigorously did this, we could really bring this outbreak back to where it needs to be," Redfield told the Journal of the American Medical Association via video on Tuesday.
Coronavirus cases are surging across the U.S., from California to Texas to Florida. More than 3.4 million people in the country have been diagnosed with the coronavirus and over 136,00 people have died.
To Redfield, a major key to controlling the pandemic is wearing masks.

I understand that, but perhaps you could show her this from the New England Journal of Medicine, May 21, 2020.
“We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes). The chance of catching Covid-19 from a passing interaction in a public space is therefore minimal. In many cases, the desire for widespread masking is a reflexive reaction to anxiety over the pandemic.”

DING! DING! DING! That is exactly right: the whole point of insisting that the mask is to “protect others” (as if we’re all running around with Ebola or something), is that it deprives people of the FREEDOM to CHOOSE what risks they’re willing to take.
And as long as they keep everyone wearing masks, they can continue to keep them terrified that COVID is everywhere. It is why you see morons driving in their car, alone, with a mask on, or morons in NYC (I saw them myself) bicycling and jogging on nearly empty streets and sidewalks, with no one coming close to within 6’ of them, wearing masks. In my own neighborhood, I’ve seen people sitting outside their houses, on 1/4 acre lots, with no one within 100’ of them (even if they were directly in front of the house on the sidewalk), wearing masks. Idiots all. Terrified, mindless sheep.

I’m sorry that she has given into the manipulation by the media and the CDC and Fauci, etc. I have family and friends that are also fearful and believe the lies we are being told every day. I cannot seem to talk much sense into them. Because I care about them, I want them to be aware that this is nothing more than manipulation. It seems we are seeing a good amount of fear and anxiety due to this widespread manipulation.
You have to live with your wife, so I get why you’re wearing one when you go out. You are keeping the peace in your marriage.

WHERE did you come up with THAT idiotic idea?? Masks have always been "bifunctional". The doctors and nurses in an operating room certainly don't wear masks to protect themselves from the patient.
Masks are actually MORE effective at "carrier to victim" protection than the reverse, because the blocking action happens while the bioaerosols are largest, before evaporation reduces particle size.

No, just that without a mask your options will be limited as to where you can go - e.g. stores. Basically the only place you will be able to roam free without a mask is on your own property.
If a vaccine ever comes along, all that ends. Until then, it’s gonna be increasingly masks,masks,masks. (Along with other precautions, such as distancing)
At any rate, it’s going to be “No shirt, no shoes, no service” on steroids for the foreseeable future.
Masks are signals of social submission. they protect no one but they certainly give the smugly self righteous a warm tingly feeling
